RCEMS founder and executive director Shlomit Radom-Aizik, a molecular biologist and exercise physiologist, has opened new research avenues into the molecular transducers of physical activity.
We thank you for your interest in the Research Center for Exercise Medicine and Sleep (RCEMS) and the cutting-edge research we are doing to benefit children today and tomorrow. The growing epidemics of pediatric obesity, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome highlight the serious consequences of inadequate physical activity and insufficient sleep among children. Children with clinical conditions face additional hurdles, often dealing with inactivity and poor sleep because they lack the tools and knowledge to safely engage in physical activities or establish healthy sleep routines.
At RCEMS, our research is paving the way for personalized “prescriptions” of physical activity and sleep strategies—targeted approaches designed to meet the unique needs of each child. These strategies not only foster healthy growth and development in childhood but also build a solid foundation for lifelong well-being.
It has been exciting to see children improve their health, sleep quality, and their outlook on life as a result of the exercise, sleep, and physical activity research we and others have done. We are very proud of the positive impact this work is having on young people in our local community and beyond.
